Transition Fun Day

This annual event is held at Diss High School for all the Year 6s from it's feeder schools, to assist in their transition into Year 7 at Diss High.

Over 100 young people turned up and enjoyed themselves with activities such as parachute games, photo hunt, ‘Peg-It’ and rope team games.

As the young people had already been placed in their new form groups for September, all the activities were designed to ensure that the young people got to know each other, that friendships were made and that young people knew their way round the school before September.

The event was run by MTM Youth Worker Julia Fairbrother.  Julia was supported by eight MTM Youth Support Workers and well as 19 Year 11 mentors who had previously attended a training session with Julia. Positive feedback was received by those Year 6's involved:

"Amazing! Very useful, I loved it."

"I think it was great to meet new friends. It was awesome."

"It was really fun and cool and I'm looking forward to high school"

"The instructors were really good and they made me feel a little calmer about high school."

Julia added "Being supported professionally by MTM has enabled me to secure external funding to run projects I had previously worked on, continuing the work that I love."

This event has run in Diss High School for many years and has become an important part of a wider programme to ensure that Year 6s make a smooth transition to high school.
